Before the Ice Melted
This time last week we were in the midst of an ice storm here in southeastern Michigan. We were hoping for snow like in the old days, but instead got ice. Pardoning all the chaos and destruction caused in its wake, the loss of power to 760,000 homes, including ours, hundreds of trees and thousands of branches fallen all over town — the ice was beautiful. Until the sun came out in mid-afternoon melting it all away, leaving no trace, as if nothing ever happened.
